The Bears' Blog January 24

The Bears’ Blog… January 24

I was so excited to start our January Principal’s Pick Writer’s Wednesday this week.  Congratulations to our winner, Aubrey C. in 6H, who had her name drawn! Of course, honorable mentions go out to Greyson R., Zoe B., Jiya M., Alex D., Shakeel T., Aashna M., Charlee D., Brielle K., and Xander W.  All the writing that was submitted demonstrated the excellent focus and effort Pine Street students put into their learning! I can’t wait until next month to read more amazing pieces.

Thank you to staff, students and families who came out to our Pine Street Family Math Games Night!  A fun time was had by all! A special thank you goes out to our Elk Island Public Schools numeracy consultant, Alexandra Candler, who supported us in planning & organizing this event!

Looking at next week, it is hard to believe we will be in the last week of January!  With so many activities and events going on @PNESchool I anticipate the time will fly by and we will be in February before we know it.  So be sure to take some time this weekend to slow down, enjoy the warmer temperatures and spend time having fun with friends and family.

ACTION

Sharing About Caring & Citizenship

  • Pine Street Pride! Check out the letter we received from the Strathcona County Christmas Bureau.  Thank you Pine Street for supporting our community & being such caring citizens!
  • Kindergarten Registration and Returning Student Registration opens on February 1, 2020. Please click here or to go our 'Parents' tab on the website for more detail.

OPPORTUNITY

Parent ~ Family ~ Community Partners

  • Monday, January 27 our Helping Hands volunteers are in at 1 p.m. to support staff in delivering excellent learning opportunities.  Thank you for partnering with us to make Pine Street a great place to learn & grow!
  • We hope our families enjoyed and learned a lot at our Pine Street Family Math Games Night last week.  To learn more about fun math games you can play at home with your kids, go to the 'Parent' tab on our website or click here.
  • Our Pine Street Parent Volunteer Society is once again having a Nitza’s Pizza Fundraiser.  For more information about how you can support our school (and not have to make supper) click here.
  • Thank you to our volunteers who came out on January 22 to gift us with their time and support our Hot Lunch program!  We could not run the program without your generous support!

INFORMATION

    • If your child is in Mrs. Forbes, Mrs. Woodbeck, Mrs. Bochek, or Mrs. Kavalinas’ class please ensure your swimming lessons (starting next week!) are paid in full.  If payment is not received prior to lessons starting your child will not be participating.  If you are in need of financial assistance check out the rap program which is offered through Strathcona County to help reduce the cost of lessons.
    • ATTENTION ALL GRADE 4 FAMILIES:  Sometime soon you will be receiving a package in the mail from Alberta Education (if you haven’t already).  This is our Accountability Pillar Survey which is a vital part of how we as a school learn about how we can continue to improve and strive for excellence. I strongly encourage you to participate in this survey to have your voice heard and to partner with us so that we can work together in continuing to offer high quality educational opportunities to our students. We will also be offering an Accountability Pillar Survey Parent Engagement night on Thursday, January 30 from 6 - 7 p.m. to allow an opportunity for families to complete the survey online at the school.
    • Bottle Drive ~ Saturday, February 1 from 10 a.m - 1 p.m.  Feel free to drop off bottles prior to this date & time if you can’t make it on Saturday and we will store them for you.  Thank you in advance to our Pine Street school community for donating your empty bottles and cans! We greatly appreciate partnering with our Pine Street Parent Volunteer Society to support this initiative.
