The Bears' Blog...May 29

I hope that everyone is enjoying the Principal’s Pick Writers Wednesday excerpts that are being shared on our school website blog and on our Twitter account (@PNESchool).  We are so proud of our writers and cannot wait to see what June submissions will look like!

There is so much going on at school right now because we only have three weeks of online classes.  Can you believe it?!  I know it is not always easy, but be sure to keep working on your studies and setting yourself up for success in the future.  You can do it!!!

Keep your eyes on your inbox because on Monday, June 1 we will be sending out our June newsletter with tons of information about staffing, assessment, report cards, and student transportation.  We are still finalizing the details of what we have planned for our grade six students, as well as the procedures we will be using in terms of the collection of materials that have been loaned out to families.  That will be coming to families very soon.

Please keep those photographs coming for our Yearbook Committee as they are working so hard to commemorate this unprecedented year in history.  You can email photos to pinestreetyearbook1@gmail.com

Stay safe!  Stay healthy!  Stay connected!

ACTION

  • If your child is finished with their home reading, library materials or textbooks, there is a book return bin located outside of our main entrance. It is outside from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on operational school days.
  • Have you ordered school supplies for the upcoming school year? There is still time to order through Write-On Stationery for delivery directly to the school or your home.
  • We invite families to submit photos to our Yearbook Committee from earlier in the year as well as in the alternative learning setting for consideration. This week submit pictures of you having a picnic with your family or of you with your favourite stuffie to pinestreetyearbook1@gmail.com.

INFORMATION

  • Details of PALS programming for 2020-21 will be shared with families in mid-to late August, after the provincial re-entry plan for schools has been unveiled. The uncertainties surrounding the current pandemic situation, coupled with the drastic provincial spring budget reductions to education, make programming decisions difficult throughout the province. Be assured that a PALS program will exist in EIPS for 2020-21, in the best format we will be able to provide.

  • Last week the Division shared a video of Elder Wilson reflecting on his time with EIPS. This week we invite you to watch the latest video of Elder Wilson introducing Jeremy Albert to the EIPS team. We are excited to continue our learning journey with Jeremy in the coming school year.
  • Strathcona County has cancelled all of their summer camps this year.
  • Mistatim Rides Again: June 19, 2020 at 2 p.m. EST - In celebration of the upcoming National Indigenous Peoples Week, Red Sky Performance is presenting a live online reading of the award-winning Mistatim for young audiences, teachers, and caregivers (ideal for Grades 1 - 6).

OPPORTUNITY

  • Save the Date Reminder: Our last virtual School Council meeting will be on Tuesday, June 9th at 6:30 p.m. Stay tuned for sign up information as the date approaches.
  • Get more details on playground re-openings by clicking here.
  • Support local business! Strathcona County developed a map to show what hours local businesses are running during the pandemic.
