Battle of the Books

Our Battle of the Books Club meetings occur every two weeks. The grade 4, 5,and 6 students who joined are busy reading all six books-which are different for each grade. We will meet more frequently as we get closer to the actual battle sometime in the spring months.

Campbell Cribb Speech Competition

Grade 4, 5 and 6 students learn how to write and deliver a speech. Three students from each class are selected to do their speeches in front of special judges at Pine Street.  The judges will select one winner from each grade who will move on to the district wide competition in April. 

Cross Country Races (Gr. 3-6)

Grade 3-6 students.

Practice begins at lunch recess in mid September.   Races for the 19-20 school year took place at Wes Hosford Elementary on September 19, September 26, and October 3. 

Remembrance Day Choir Gr. 3-6

Rehearsals start at lunch recess on Wednesday, October 9. Students are to meet in the music room after the eating portion of lunch for rehearsal.  

Short Track Gr. 4-6

Short track tryouts occur each year in late September/Early October.   Practices for the 2019-2020 school year will begin Tuesdays and Thursdays for practices on October 17th at 7:45 am.

Spring Choir

Spring Choir will be for grade 2 - 4 students. Students will perform 2 songs at the Volunteer Luncheon on May 6. 

Student Council

Each classroom in Pine Street send 2 students to work with Mrs. Stevens and our student council.  Meetings are during lunch recess every second Monday.   Student council members pick theme days for early dismissal days, help organize our shoe drive, water day and a bunch of other events around the school. Meetings are usually every second Monday during after the eating portion of lunch. 

Swimming Lessons

All classes from Kindergarten to grade 5 walk to the Kinsmen Pool for swimming lessons each year.

Volleyball (Grade 6)

Grade 6 students have the opportunity to play (and learn) volleyball to get ready for Junior High athletic teams.

Open gym volleyball in the gym :  Oct 28 & 29 from 11:32 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Volleyball Try outs:  November 4, 5 and 6  11:32 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Young Authors' Conference

Each year over 400 selected students in grades 4 to 9 from both Elk Island Public Schools and Elk Island Catholic Schools are invited to spend the day with a variety of well-known children and young adult authors, illustrators and graphic artists—working with them and learning the tricks of the trade.

This year the conference will take place:

Selection and Registration

Students who show special interest or aptitude in the areas of writing and illustration are invited by their teacher to attend the conference. Attendance is teacher selected and there is no open registration, however, every attempt is made to give opportunities to those students who would value most from this experience. 

If you have been selected, please return your parent permission form to your school's YAC representative, you will then be provided with the information to complete your registration.
